Drew Carothers

Drew was a 3 sport varsity athlete at Fairfield High School from his sophomore year on. He was recruited by some Division 2 & 3 schools to play both baseball and basketball. In the fall of his senior year he was offered a scholarship to play baseball at Iona College , Division 1, as a pitcher. At the age of 22 he started his coaching career as the assistant baseball coach at Greens Farms Academy and freshman basketball coach at Fairfield Prep. He coached at Fairfield Prep for 6 years and 3 years as the Assistant Varsity Coach at Fairfield Warde High School.

Nine years ago Drew started the PHD Program with Jay Conway. Over his nine years he has coached all different age groups in 2015 he Won both the 12u and 14u CT State Championships, while also taking his 14u to Virginia for Division 3 Nationals where they finished 5th. In 2016, his 15u Team traveled to Memphis, TN where they finished in the Top 10 D2 Nationally.

In the 2017 Spring AAU Season his 12u/6th Grade Team won the D1 CT State Championship and finished ranked #10 Nationally.  

Drew came up through the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club Programs and worked 3 years as a program director.Before Wakeman, Drew ran an after school cooking and sports program in Bridgeport at the Burroughs Community Center. Drew is now working as the Assistant Executive Director at the Cardinall Shehan Center in Bridgeport, CT.

Jay Conway

Jay attended Christian Brothers Academy a top 20 class A New York State high school basketball team. He was the second leading scorer his junior season. After a back injury his senior season he went on to Worcester Academy for a fifth year as a graduate student. He led Worcester Academy in scoring for that  season.

After his one year stint at Worcester he went on to play college basketball at New   York University .  He was a key player off the bench from game one. Half way through his freshman year he was placed in the starting lineup where he was until he graduated. Jay set an NCAA record for three point shots in a row with 11. Jay's senior year he was named MVP of NYU's basketball team. By the end of his career he accumulated over 1200 points.

Kevin Wielk

Kevin attended and played high school basketball at St. Joe's High School in Trumbull, CT. After his graduation at St. Joe's, Kevin went to attend Nichols College where he played 4 years of basketball. His senior year he was nominated by his to coach to be a captain of the basketball team.

Kevin started his coaching career at Westbrook High School where he worked as the Head JV and Assistant Varsity basketball coach for three seasons. After coaching at Westbrook he moved to Notre Dame of Fairfield High School where he held the same positions for 3 seasons.

Six seasons of coaching high school basketbal gave Kevin an opportunity to become the Head Assistant Coach at Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut. In 2010, the Falcons moved from the bottom of the division to conference champions. They went to the Division 3 NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

 Kevin has been at Albertus Magnus for 6 seasons and is currently still with the Falcons.

Kyle Commodore

Past experience in basketball as a player included:

·         1990-1991 Boy of the Year at Cardinal Shehan Center played and started on Shehan Center Teams that went approximately 100-5 over a 4 year period.

·         Played on St. Ambrose Grammar School team that won the Diocese in 1990-1991 Team went approximately 50 and 1 over 2 years

·         St. Joesph H.S. Played varsity Freshmen Year, Sophomore Year.  Started Varsity Junior and Senior Seasons Earned All State honors senior season, McDonald’s Honorable Mention Honors senior season. 

·         Earn Division 1 Basketball Scholarship to Fairfield University.  Played 25 minutes a game freshmen season while averaging 9 Points a game.  Was a starter for rest of career at Fairfield University.

·         Opportunities to play overseas but chose not to pursue. 

Past experience in Basketball as a coach includes:

·         2013-2015 Harding Varsity Assistant Coach and Harding Freshmen Coach

·         Coaching experience from 1992 -2002 at summer basketball camps for kids ages 5-17.

·         Help Division 1 coaches in demonstration to other college coaches in 2002 and 2003: Mike Krzyzewski, Tom Crean, Roy Williams, Hubie Brown.

Kyle has been coaching from high school level down for the past 27 years.

DJ Ellis

DJ played high school basketball at both St. Joseph High School (Trumbull) and Kolbe Cathedral High School (Bridgeport). During his time at Kolbe they were ranked in the Top 5 in the state. During his senior year they lost in both the SWC and State Championships. 

He then went on to play at Gateway Community College for one year where they were ranked #10 Nationally. 

DJ has worked for the past 5 years at the Cardinal Shehan Center in Bridgeport. He also works as a personal trainer for athletes, many of which are currently playing Division 1 sports. He has been a PHD Coach for the past two years.

John Cappello

Playing background:

Jeremy Daniel

Jeremy played high school basketball locally at Bassick High School in Bridgeport, CT. In the offseason he played for various AAU Programs where he won a National Title with his 15u age group. 

After high school he attended Lasell College where he finished his career: 
- 3rd in Steals
- 2nd in Assists
- Single game record for assists in a game, 14
